Easiest process for recording e-learning files at home using free software

1. record using ClearRecord Lite from your mobile  or tablet in long files (or any other free desktop application, but I found this program is really good) — but make sure you don’t have an open door or window in the room, the kids are sleeping and there is no fan or air-conditioner on

2. use Audacity to remove noise using effects -> noise  removal after getting noise profile (you can repeat this process twice)

3. After background noise is removed, split the long file using slice audio file splitter

4. rename split files

5. Create a chain using audacity where you specify  for example: Amplify, normalize, changepitch,
exportwav, then apply to all files , then apply the chain to all the files you renamed (play with different parameters and try it with one audio file until you reach the desired result)

6. you will have a folder called clean with your  final files

7. convert to mp3 using winlame specifying your prefered bitrate

8. Listen to them again to make sure everything is OK

WELVE STEP INTERNET RECOVERY PROGRAM

1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my newspaper like I used to, before the Internet.

2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one hand typing.

3) I will get dressed before noon.

4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash clothes, and plan dinner before even thinking of the Internet.

5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few friends and family that are Internet-deprived.

6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via the Internet.

7) I will read a book … If I still remember how.

8) I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music on the Internet.

9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.

10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week, if it is necessary or not.

11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Internet.

12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed sometime … And the Internet will always be there tomorrow!

Blocking Ads

Are you tired of all those adds that appear every now and then while you are surfing the internet?
Well, I had the same problem and I tried a lot of software to block websites but they were just trial versions, so once the trial version expired, the ads were happy again…

Now, I use a very easy way to block those annoying and sometimes even malicious websites! And it works!

If you are on Windows, all you need is to know the url addresses of the websites that always appear to you. (You can wait until they appear next time and copy their address from the address bar)

Then you will use the Windows magical HOSTS file.
For your version of Windows, the HOSTS file is located in

Windows XP:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

Windows 2000:
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\

Windows 98/ME:
C:\WINDOWS\

The hosts file allows you to manually enter IP addresses associated with websites, so the DNS server can quickly resolve an address.(If you don’t understand that, no worries)

So now you will make a trick: You will tell that DNS thingie that all the ad websites that you hate have the IP address 127.0.0.1.

If you don’t already know,127.0.0.1 is your local machine!

So say now you want to block annoying.com.

Now annoying.com wants to open its ad at: annoying.com/ad/index.html.

Your machine will try to open: 127.0.0.1/ad/index.html

Of course it will not find it on your computer, so it is blocked.

LONG LIVE HOSTS!

You can do that not only to ads that appear in a new browser window, but also ads that appear on websites you visit by just knowing where they come from.

The only disadvantage of using this way is that if ads usually appear in new windows, the new window still opens but it gives you a wrong address message. But this is far better than seeing an ad every now and then!

Now, let’s do it,
—first go find your hosts file from the path given above.
—open it with notepad (right click -> open with-> notepad )
—you will find the following line:
127.0.0.1 localhost
---underneath it copy and paste the same line, but change localhost to the address of the website you want to block eg
127.0.0.1 www.ad.com
127.0.0.1 stupid.ad.com
127.0.0.1 annoyingads.com

---Save and Close, and you're done!

From now on, you choose who visits you at home! :)
You can also use it to block certain website from your children or little brothers/sisters...
And they will never understand how you did it :)

Pocket Quran for your mobile phone

undefined

Ever felt you need a Pocket Qur’an with you wherever you are, can glow in the dark if you are in your bed or travelling in your car at night, and can remember where you have stopped last time??

This Qur’an is available, and for free!

Go to the following link and download the one suitable for your mobile phone version:

http://www.pocketquran.com

Then use the USB cable and your Nokia PC Suite “Install Software” to install it on your mobile.
I think this only works for nokia, and for phones with big screens, and palms and smartphones.
I have tried it with the Ns and it worked.

Hope it works for you too! 🙂
